Rex Chat: Your AI Conversation Hub
Rex Chat
Rex Chat is your AI command center — a place where you can manage your rental business through natural conversation. Ask questions, take actions, get reports, and handle daily operations without leaving the chat.
Opening Rex Chat
Click the Ask Rex card on your Dashboard homepage (or go to /dashboard/rex directly). You'll see:
- Sidebar (left) — Your conversation history, grouped by date
- Chat area (center) — Where you talk with Rex
- Input bar (bottom) — Type your message and press Enter or click Send
On mobile, tap the sidebar toggle to show or hide your conversation list.
Starting a Conversation
From the Empty State
When you open Rex Chat with no active conversation, you'll see:
- Rex's avatar and a welcome message
- Smart suggestion chips — personalized questions based on what's happening in your business right now
Click any suggestion to ask that question instantly, or type your own.
From a Link
Other pages in RecSystems can link directly to Rex with a pre-filled question. When you click one of these links, Rex automatically sends the question and starts streaming the answer.
How Rex Responds
Real-Time Streaming
Rex's responses appear word-by-word as they're generated — you see the answer forming in real time rather than waiting for the full response. A blinking cursor shows that Rex is still typing.
Rich Formatting
Rex formats responses with:
- Bold text and headings for key information
- Bullet lists for multiple items
- Clickable links to your dashboard pages (bookings, carts, pricing rules)
- Dollar amounts and times formatted for easy reading
Help Center Articles
When your question relates to a RecSystems feature, Rex may include Related Help Center articles below the answer — cards you can click to read the full documentation.
Action Confirmations
When Rex is about to take an action (like checking in a customer), you'll see:
- A preview of what will happen
- Confirm and Cancel buttons
- Click Confirm to proceed, or Cancel to stop
Managing Conversations
Conversation Sidebar
The sidebar shows all your recent conversations:
- Grouped by date — Today, Yesterday, Last 7 Days, etc.
- Auto-titled — Rex generates a short title based on what you discussed
- Click to resume — Click any conversation to continue where you left off
Starting Fresh
Click the + button at the top of the sidebar to start a new conversation. Your previous conversations remain accessible.
Archiving Conversations
Click the trash icon next to any conversation to archive it. It's removed from the sidebar but doesn't affect your business data.
Conversation Memory
Within a conversation, Rex remembers everything discussed. This means you can:
- Ask Rex to look up a booking: Find the Smith reservation
- Then refer back to it: Check them in
- And follow up: Now send them a welcome email
Rex knows them refers to the Smith booking from earlier in the conversation.

Tips for Best Results
Be Natural
Talk to Rex like you'd talk to a colleague:
- Hey, what's happening today?
- Can you check in the 10am pontoon group?
- What should I focus on this afternoon?
Be Specific When It Matters
For lookups and actions, include identifying details:
- Customer name, email, or phone
- Unit name
- Date or date range
Use Follow-Ups
Don't repeat context Rex already has. After showing a booking:
- Good: Add a $25 fuel charge to that one
- Unnecessary: Add a $25 fuel charge to booking #abc123 for John Smith at Lake Marina
