## Fee Settings – Staff and Account Owner Training This guide explains how to configure and interpret the platform fee and the renter/account split. ### What is the platform fee? - A single percentage (default 10%) that covers both payment processing (Stripe) and RecSystems’ platform revenue. - It’s applied to the booking subtotal after pre-tax discounts. ### Who pays the fee? - Use the slider on Settings → Fees to split the total fee: - 0% slider: renter pays 100% of the fee. - 100% slider: the business (your payout) absorbs 100% of the fee. - Any value in between splits the fee accordingly. ### What does the customer see? - Customers see their portion of the fee included as a line item in the booking total (the rest is absorbed by your payout). Taxes apply to the subtotal before the fee. - Optional: enable “Tax fees” to include the renter’s fee in the taxable base. Toggle found in Settings → Fees and in Admin account forms. Uses a reliable hidden-field + checkbox pair to save both on and off states. ### How Stripe fees are handled - Stripe’s processing fee is paid out of the combined fee. The remainder is RecSystems’ platform revenue. Your net payout reflects your share after these are deducted. - The renter/account split also controls what appears on customer totals vs. what is absorbed by your payout. Cart checkout and receipts reflect these allocations consistently. ### Examples - If the platform fee is 10% and the slider is set so the account pays 30%: - Customer pays ~70% of the 10% as a fee line. - Your payout absorbs ~30% of the 10%. ### Tips - To pass all fees to customers, set the slider to 0. - To absorb all fees for the most price-transparent customer total, set the slider to 100. - Changes take effect on new checkouts; existing paid carts remain unchanged. ### Notes - Fees are a single percentage that includes Stripe processing and platform revenue. The slider controls what portion appears on the customer’s total vs. is absorbed by your payout. Application fees on deposits are capped to the deposit amount with any remainder handled in subsequent payments. ### Taxes on Fees (optional) - What it does: When enabled, your sales tax is calculated on (rental subtotal + the customer’s portion of the platform fee), instead of subtotal only. - When to enable: Only if your jurisdiction requires taxes on service/processing/platform fees. - Where to enable: Dashboard → Settings → Fees ("Tax fees" switch). - Display impact: Totals won’t change if your tax rate is 0%. If enabled with a non‑zero tax rate, customers will see a slightly higher tax amount. ### Need help? - Email support at [email protected].
