## Unit Downtime
Use Downtime to make a unit unavailable to customers for a period of time — for cleaning, repairs, inspections, private events, staffing gaps, bad weather, or off‑season storage.
At a glance: Downtime hides a unit from customer booking for a window you choose. Admins and Managers can schedule it for an entire day or for specific start/end times. If your unit has multiple identical items (e.g., 10 bikes), you can block more than one at once by choosing a quantity.
---
### Quick steps
- Go to `Dashboard → Account → Unit Downtime`
- Click `Schedule Downtime`
- Choose the unit
- Set quantity (how many to block; usually 1)
- Pick a reason (downtime type)
- Set start and end date/time (or turn on “All day”)
- (Optional) Add a short note
- Review the summary and submit
Tip: Keep the window as short as practical and add a brief note so teammates know why it’s blocked.
---
### Pick the right type
- Cleaning / Detailing
- Maintenance / Repair
- Inspection
- Off‑Season Storage
- Manufacturer Recall
- Staffing Constraint
- Private Event / Owner
- Transport / Relocate
- Upgrade / Install
- Weather Hold
Clear reasons make the schedule easy to read.

### All‑day vs specific times
All‑day blocks the unit during your normal hours for the selected day(s). If you only need part of a day, enter exact start and end times. Pick the smallest block that still protects operations.
---
### Quantity (for multi‑quantity units)
If your unit has multiple identical items (e.g., 10 bikes), set the quantity to the number you need to block. For single items (like most boats), quantity is 1.
---
### See, filter, and remove downtime
Go to `Dashboard → Account → Unit Downtime`. Use the Filter to switch between Upcoming, Past, All, or a custom date range. To remove a block, click `Remove` on the entry — availability returns immediately.
---
### How downtime looks on the Booking Schedule
On the Booking Schedule, downtime shows as a yellow bar labeled “Scheduled Downtime” (you’ll also see the specific type, like “Maint” or “Event”). It spans exactly the dates and times you set. While the bar is present, you cannot create a customer booking that overlaps it.
• All‑day downtime fills the entire operating window for that day.
• Multi‑day downtime stretches across days as one continuous bar.
• Quantity greater than 1 consumes multiple parallel lanes for that time window. If there are many parallel items, you may see “Overflow” lanes — this is just a visual way to show all concurrent blocks; availability rules still enforce the block.
Removing downtime instantly frees those times on the schedule.
---
### Common examples
Quick clean between rentals: Quantity 1, Type “Cleaning,” short window between bookings.
Shop repair (duration unknown): Type “Maintenance/Repair,” block your best estimate now; extend or remove once confirmed.
Weather day: Type “Weather,” cover the hours you won’t operate.
Off‑season: Type “Off‑Season Storage,” set All‑day across the season.
---
### Best practices
Keep notes short and useful. Block only what you need (time and quantity). Use consistent names for repeat events (like “Annual inspection”). Set seasonal downtime early.
---
### Troubleshooting
Can’t schedule downtime? Make sure you’re an Admin or Manager, the start is before the end, and the unit exists and is active.
Still not bookable after removing downtime? Check for other bookings or downtime, verify the unit’s schedule for that day, and try a slightly different time window to confirm availability is back.
